The Save Maine Absentee Voting coalition is a diverse, nonpartisan coalition of organizations and individuals from across Maine who believe that fair, secure, and accessible elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. Together, we are committed to defeating the November 2025 Maine citizen’s initiative - deceptively called “Voter ID for ME” - that would gut Maine’s secure absentee voting system, making it much harder for eligible seniors, Mainers with disabilities, and rural voters to cast a ballot. We are led by a growing Steering Committee that is currently made up of Maine Votes and Maine Voices Network, the ACLU of Maine, League of Women Voters of Maine, Maine Conservation Voters, Maine People’s Alliance, and RepresentUS.
Under the direction of the Save Maine Absentee Voting, the campaign manager will work with the strategic leads, consultants, and the staff and leadership of supporting organizations to execute a comprehensive campaign.
The campaign manager will oversee the ongoing development and day-to-day execution of the campaign plan including:
Ensuring effective communications and coordination among all elements of the campaign;
Identifying potential obstacles to success early on and troubleshooting;
Creating a transparent campaign environment with an emphasis on professional communications among all stakeholders;
Developing and executing a voter contact field plan;
Hiring (as needed) and managing campaign consultants, including research, mail, paid communications, etc.;
Engaging the robust coalition in strategic campaign tactics including providing organizations a process to organize their members;
Identifying and managing earned media and social media opportunities;
Managing campaign budget and assisting with campaign fundraising;
Representing the campaign at events;
Leading GOTV activities; and
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred experience:
At least three cycles of candidate, independent expenditure, or referendum campaign experience, including at least one cycle at a senior or management level;
Experience applying principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in previous work, especially in applying those principles to campaign management and administration;
Ability to successfully manage competing, time-sensitive priorities;
Experience in managing or leading a team of people with a range of skills, experiences, and goals;
Leadership style that centers collaboration, and relationship-building;
Understanding of how to run campaigns that achieve immediate victory, build capacity for the long-term, and change hearts and mind; and
Extensive experience using VAN, GSuite, and other organizing tools.
Desired experience (our preferred candidate will have at least one or two of these):
Experience managing a statewide ballot initiative campaign,
Experience working in political, advocacy, and/or organizing campaigns in Maine and a commitment to developing long-term campaign leadership capacity in Maine,
Experience working with (c)(3) and/or (c)(4) alignment tables, and/or
Experience advocating for democracy or voting rights reforms or protections.
This is a contract position through November 2025. The salary for this position is $8,000 - $10,000 per month, based on experience, and will be based in Maine with substantial in-state travel.
